AI-driven defense technologies to be spotlighted by Altair at DSEI 2025 exhibition
The defence industry is witnessing a flurry of exciting developments, with several UK-based companies making significant strides in their respective fields.
In a notable collaboration, ISTEC, one of the UK's leading designers and manufacturers of specialist weapons integration mounts, has selected Polar Technology to manufacture the sub-frame for ISTEC's weapons mount on the USAF Grey Wolf Helicopter. This partnership marks a significant step forward, as the sub-frame connects the ISTEC-designed weapons mount to the Grey Wolf Helicopter, a type of helicopter used by the United States Air Force.
Meanwhile, Orbex, a UK-based company, has successfully completed its first full simulation of the Prime vehicle launch. This key technical milestone brings Orbex one step closer to delivering orbital launch services from the UK next year. The manufacturing of Orbex's vehicles takes place at Polar Technology's Oxfordshire-based engineering and manufacturing business.
On the technology front, Altair, a global technology company, is making waves in the aerospace and defence sector. Dr. Pietro Cervellera, the Senior Vice President of Aerospace and Defense at Altair, emphasizes AI, data, and connectivity as today's competitive advantages. Altair solutions are used to create unified, fused data models for military assets throughout their entire lifecycle. These models manage production machines and maintenance databases, enable flexible production planning, prevent failures, and automate complex operations with AI agents.
Altair technologies are also strengthening secure communications, enabling faster threat detection, and supporting real-time decision-making on the battlefield. In addition, Altair will demonstrate AI-powered engineering, smart manufacturing, and advanced connectivity at DSEI 2025, an event taking place September 9-12 at the ExCel Centre in London.
The company's commitment to fostering innovation extends to the Altair Aerospace Startup Acceleration Program (ASAP). This program equips emerging companies, universities, and research organizations with enterprise-grade tools, enabling them to make breakthroughs in performance, reliability, and innovation.
Outside of the UK, Woodward Inc, an American company, has announced its plans to build a precision manufacturing facility in Greer, South Carolina, in Spartanburg County. This move is expected to bolster the company's capabilities in the aerospace and defence sectors.
Finally, Molex, a global manufacturer of electronic solutions, has introduced the AirBorn 3U VPX Power Supply. This new product delivers clean power in a smaller form factor for space-constrained aerospace, defence, and commercial applications.
These developments underscore the dynamic nature of the aerospace, defence, and technology sectors, with companies continually pushing the boundaries of innovation to meet the demands of the modern world.
