Chery Introduces the Tiggo 8: A Larger, More Feature-Rich SUV

In a move to expand its lineup, Chinese automaker Chery has unveiled the Tiggo 8, a 7-seat SUV that serves as a larger version of the popular Tiggo 7. The new model will be available in Kiwi showrooms, joining the Tiggo 4 and the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid.

The Tiggo 8 boasts several improvements over its predecessor. It features a larger infotainment screen, measuring 15.6 inches compared to the Tiggo 7's screen. The vehicle also rolls on 19-inch wheels, adding to its stylish appeal. Inside, the Tiggo 8 offers a 6-way powered driver's seat with a massage function, and a 10-speaker sound system for an immersive audio experience.

The Tiggo 8 shares the same Super Hybrid powertrain as the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid and the Jaecoo J7 SHS. This hybrid powertrain, which Chery claims offers a 30-80% boost in just 20 minutes with fast charging, is a testament to the manufacturer's commitment to sustainable technology. The Tiggo 8 will be available in a single Ultimate model, priced at $51,990.

The Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid, on the other hand, is a plug-in hybrid SUV that is set to be New Zealand's cheapest new plug-in hybrid, priced at $42,990. It is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine making 105kW/215Nm, and a single electric motor producing 150kW/310Nm. The plug-in battery has a capacity of 18.3kWh, and the vehicle is DC fast-charge compatible, supporting up to 40kW.

The Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid offers two models: the Urban and the Super Hybrid. The Urban model costs $46,990. Notably, the battery can power the Tiggo 7 at up to 120km/h, as long as it's at 30% charge or more.

The Tiggo 8, like its smaller counterpart, is 220mm longer than the Tiggo 7, with a length of 4720mm. This larger size translates to more space for passengers and cargo.

Chery's innovative Super Hybrid System (SHS) technology, which is shared by the Jaecoo J7 SHS, will also be offered in the Tiggo 8 a few months later. This confirmation underscores Chery's commitment to providing sustainable and technologically advanced vehicles to its customers.

With its larger size, improved features, and hybrid powertrain, the Tiggo 8 promises to be an exciting addition to Chery's lineup in New Zealand.
