Affordable Electric SUVs Coming to Australia: BYD Atto 2 Launching Q4 2025

Get ready, Australia! The electric vehicle (EV) market is about to see a new player, as BYD Australia plans to launch an affordable electric SUV variant of the Atto 2 in Q4 2025.

The new Atto 2, built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 with Cell-to-Body structural battery tech, will offer a compact and capable EV option for urban users and fleet operators seeking affordable, efficient solutions.

Two battery pack options will be available for the Atto 2: 1. A more affordable variant with a 32 kWh Blade Battery, offering an estimated range of up to 301 km (CLTC) or around 250 km (WLTP). This variant is aimed at city commuters and younger buyers, featuring fewer smart driving features than the higher-spec trims. 2. The standard variants, equipped with a 51.13 kWh Blade Battery, delivering an estimated range of up to 400 km (CLTC).

The 51 kWh battery pack variant will also be available in Q4 2025, boasting a 130 kW front-mounted motor delivering up to 290 Nm of torque.

The Atto 2's e-Platform 3.0 construction, with its Cell-to-Body technology, provides a 32% increase in torsional rigidity and improved safety. Additionally, the motor is part of BYD's 8-in-1 powertrain, integrating various components like the motor controller, on-board charger, and battery management system.

Vehicle-to-load (V2L) is available on the Atto 2, offering up to 3.3 kW of AC power from the battery pack to power other devices.

Riz Akhtar, the founder of carloop, an Australian company specializing in EV data, insight reports, and trends, is looking forward to the Atto 2's arrival. As a mechanical engineer with a passion for EVs, Akhtar is dedicated to reducing transport emissions in Australia. Currently driving a red Tesla Model 3, Akhtar is excited about the potential of the Atto 2 to expand the EV market in Australia.

With the Atto 2's affordable price point and impressive range, it's poised to make a significant impact on the Australian EV market. Stay tuned for more updates on the launch of the Atto 2!
