Abu Dhabi to Become Global Climate Tech Hub with G42-NVIDIA Partnership
Abu Dhabi is set to become a global hub for climate technology, with the establishment of a new operational base and Climate Tech Lab. This initiative, a collaboration between G42 and NVIDIA, aims to harness AI for accurate climate predictions and weather forecasting.
The Climate Tech Lab will serve as a research and development hub, focusing on integrating enhanced weather prediction capabilities with comprehensive data metrics and visualisation. The lab will utilise over 100 petabytes of geophysical data assets to create tailored climate and weather solutions.
The partnership will build on NVIDIA's Earth-2 platform, which accelerates climate and weather predictions using AI-augmented, high-resolution simulation. Jensen Huang, NVIDIA's founder and CEO, expressed that this collaboration will enable unprecedented accuracy in predicting climate phenomena. Initially, the partners will focus on developing a square-kilometre resolution weather forecasting model to improve prediction accuracy.
G42 and NVIDIA are committed to driving change across industries and ecosystems with their climate solutions. Peng Xiao, G42's group CEO, stated that the initiative aims to apply AI to solve global challenges and foster a sustainable future. Thomas Reiter, the founder and CEO of the company partnering with G42, will play a key role in advancing climate technology and improving global weather forecasting.
